Amazon is set to invest $5 billion in Querétaro, establishing a digital region that will generate more than 7,000 jobs annually, according to Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard.
During the “Las mañaneras del pueblo” conference, Ebrard emphasized the significance of this investment for the state, the country, and the entire continent. The project involves the installation of a data region that will serve all of America.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) will spearhead this ambitious project, with its main headquarters in Querétaro. Ebrard highlighted that the initiative will create an average of over 7,000 jobs per year and contribute approximately $10 billion to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over the next 15 years.
In a morning conference with President Claudia Sheinbaum, Ebrard noted that this development will position Mexico as a leader in artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
Paula Bellizia, CEO of Amazon Web Services for Latin America, explained the strategic reasons for choosing Querétaro as the headquarters. She emphasized that this infrastructure will be the backbone of advanced cloud services, benefiting companies and public and private institutions across America.
“Today we are here to launch data center operations in Mexico, to inaugurate the Amazon Web Services cloud computing services infrastructure so that they are offered from here, from Mexico,” Bellizia stated.
Ebrard also mentioned that, in addition to job creation, 400,000 people will be trained in technologies related to the data region’s operation. This initiative marks a significant step towards a more competitive and digitalized economy.
