The Baja California Government implemented a decree that grants discounts and tax incentives for the exchange of vehicle license plates. This measure will be in effect until June 30, 2025, and seeks to update the vehicle registry while alleviating the economic burden on citizens, especially in the first months of the year.
The director of SAT BC, Gustavo Santos Hernández Valenzuela, informed local media that this decree reaffirms the state government’s commitment to Baja California families, promoting vehicle regularization and contributing to a safer environment thanks to better vehicle identification.
What discounts are offered for the exchange of license plates in Baja California?
The benefits for those who complete the procedure before June 30, 2025 are the following:
Free exchange for people with disabilities throughout 2025
80% discount on the cost of plates and license plates
100% forgiveness of fines for late exchange
100% forgiveness of revalidation fees for 2019 and previous years
50% additional discount for pensioners, retirees and senior citizens
These discounts are given as follows:
2020-2022 models: First vehicle with 50% discount, second vehicle with 25%
2019 or older models: First vehicle with 75% discount, second vehicle with 50%
As of July 1, 2025, the exchange will be mandatory for all vehicles with plates issued before 2021. Those who do not comply will lose the benefits and will not be able to circulate legally.
Citizens can exchange their license plates in person at the corresponding offices, online, through the official portal www.bajacalifornia.gob.mx, or through authorized third parties. In addition, the SAT BC offers 24/7 support through the WhatsApp number 686 900 9091 to resolve any questions or requests.
