Travelers to Cancun often face exorbitant taxi fares, but there are cheaper and safer alternatives to reach your accommodation in downtown Cancun or the Hotel Zone for less than 200 pesos.
TikTok user Pit Mandujano offers a solution: buses. In his video, he explains how to take an ADO bus from Cancun International Airport. The ticket costs 140 pesos, and the last bus departs at midnight, taking you to downtown Cancun in less than 40 minutes. The bus is safe, reliable, and allows you to travel with your luggage without any issues.
Once in downtown Cancun, if your hotel is in the Hotel Zone, head to Tulum Avenue. Under a pedestrian bridge, you’ll find the R1 transport route, which costs 12 pesos and runs 24 hours a day. This route covers the entire Hotel Zone, including bars and beaches, making it a convenient option for both reaching your accommodation and exploring the area.
This alternative not only avoids taxi abuse but also keeps your transportation costs under 200 pesos.
Reports of taxi abuse have increased, with well-known influencer Luisito Comunica sharing his experience of being charged 2,000 pesos for a 20-minute trip. Similarly, content creator Narabask recounted being charged 10,000 pesos for a half-hour trip to Tulum. Another Mexican tourist reported being asked for 1,800 pesos for a nine-minute trip from the airport.
In response, Quintana Roo’s Secretary of Government, Cristina Torres Gómez, announced measures to regulate taxi fares and distances at the state’s airports. “The one who regulates fares and distances is SICT, however, we have already taken this complaint published on social media to bring it to the table,” she said.
