A fuel pipeline fire caused the closure of traffic on the Mexico-Querétaro highway at kilometer 73, in Tepeji del Río, Hidalgo.
Civil Protection elements from the town and surrounding municipalities, as well as elements from Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos), firefighting teams and members of the National Guard are attending to the fire that occurred on Friday afternoon on the side of the highway, whose column of smoke could be seen several kilometers away.
Around 6:00 p.m. (local time), Federal Roads and Bridges of Revenue and Related Services (Capufe) announced the closure of traffic in both directions of the highway, however, an hour later it announced that traffic was restored in the direction of Querétaro and the closure of traffic would only continue in the direction of Mexico City.
Authorities said that motorists traveling toward Mexico City can take the detour located at kilometer 83, which will lead them to the town of Jilotepec.
So far, authorities have not detailed the origin of the fire or whether any injuries have been reported.
