One of the most emblematic sites in the Mexican capital is the Arena Mexico, a place where wrestling matches are held and which has brought together dozens of families, tourists and fans of this sport since the 1930s. Its relevance is so great that it is not surprising that if something important happens in its surroundings, it immediately becomes a trend, as happened with the operation that the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office carried out in the middle of the event.
Through social networks, photos and videos went viral showing elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), workers of the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office and even the mayor herself, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, removing dozens of merchants who are located in the vicinity of the sports venue.
According to preliminary information, an operation was carried out in order to remove all informal businesses that are located on public roads, which prevents pedestrians from moving freely.

Those in charge of carrying out the operation urged the merchants to leave the site, so in a matter of minutes, the items on sale near the Balderas station of the Mexico City Metro were removed.
It should be noted that, initially, it was not reported whether there were people arrested or whether the merchandise had been seized, so she asked on social networks to wait for the same mayor’s office or the Capital Police to give details about the operation that took place on the night of Friday, January 17 in the next few hours.

On social networks, Mayor Alessandra Rojo de la Vega published a series of photos where she appears leading the operation, confirming that the events did leave 5 people arrested.
According to the mayor, 5 people commonly known as franeleros were arrested “for illegally setting aside spaces”, while two resellers were referred to the authorities for improper practices, which were not detailed.
The Arena Mexico is one of the most emblematic wrestling venues in Mexico and the world. Its history dates back to the construction of the old “Arena Modelo” in 1933, which was later renovated to make way for the current Arena Mexico, inaugurated on April 27, 1956 in Mexico City.
This venue was specifically designed to host wrestling events and was established as “The Cathedral of Wrestling”, being the main house of the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), the oldest wrestling promotion in the world. In addition to wrestling, the space has been used for cultural events, concerts and other sporting activities.
With capacity for approximately 16,500 spectators, the Arena México is known for its unparalleled atmosphere and for being the stage for historic events, such as the “CMLL Anniversary,” considered the longest-running wrestling show in the world.
