The case of the American influencer Arielle Simone has taken an unexpected turn. In recent days, the woman known as “Holistic Mami” has been singled out on social media for allegedly promoting gentrification in Mexico City.
After sharing her experience in which she mentioned that her move to the country’s capital is because it is more accessible compared to the United States, this caused residents to attack her and ask her about her legal and economic stay in the country.
Amid criticism, Simone exchanged messages with a user in response to questions about why she does not speak Spanish, the woman who considers herself holistic mentioned that “Mexicans should speak English if they want to make money.”
This caused her to lock her social media in the face of the wave of criticism.
Influencer asks for help to move from one neighborhood to another
After facing the population, Arielle Simone opened a GoFundMe to raise money to move, as she claims that her safety is in danger. But she is not looking to return to her country, but only to change neighborhoods.
In response, she is asking to reach the goal of $4,500, a little over 90,000 Mexican pesos, and has already reached 60% of the goal.
“Recently, I experienced a significant negative reaction on social media after celebrating the milestone of one year of living in Mexico City. While my intention was to express my gratitude for this trip and honor the local culture that I respect so much, the response took a dark turn and escalated into threats and attempts to compromise my safety,” the description reads.
People on social media are joining together to denounce the post because they believe it is making easy money.
