Martín Escareño Díaz, originally from Guadalupe, Zacatecas, became the first deportee of the Donald Trump administration after being arrested while trying to enter the United States illegally.

Escareño said that he crossed the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing using a false document, motivated by the fear generated by Trump’s statements about tightening immigration policies.

“Yes, I had planned it, but they are planted, they already know what they do,” he said.

However, his plan was frustrated when the US authorities detected the irregularity in the document. He was arrested and remained in custody for a day before being deported this morning through Tijuana.

Upon his arrival, the Zacatecan thanked the treatment received by the Mexican authorities.

Martín confessed that this is not the first time he has tried to cross into the United States. On several occasions he has lived undocumented, even for a period of 10 years. Although he now faces a more complicated situation, his determination does not diminish.
