Arnoldo Nicolás Romero, ejidal commissioner and activist against the Interoceanic Train, murdered in Oaxaca

Arnoldo Nicolás Romero, a municipal commissioner of Buena Vista, in the municipality of San Juan Guichicovi, Oaxaca, was found dead with gunshot wounds, after having been reported missing on January 17, confirmed Article 19.

Through social media, the organization demanded justice for the murder of the defender against the Interoceanic Train and asked that the crime be investigated, in addition to urgent protection being granted to the defenders.

The Human Rights Commission of Mexico City (CDHCM) also condemned the murder of the land defender in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca.

“It is essential that this event be investigated from the perspective of human rights and that his work as a defender be taken into account,” it reported on its social media.

The commission sent its condolences to the victim’s family and to the Union of Ejidos, Communal Assets, Agricultural Colonies and Native Peoples of the Isthmus A.C., to which Romero belonged.

The activist’s body was found on a ranch located between Santa Ana and the municipal capital, which was confirmed by the Union of Indigenous Communities of the Northern Zone of the Isthmus (Ucizoni), an organization to which he also belonged.
