A case of animal abuse in Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca, was spread through social media, where a taxi driver was caught dragging two dogs with his vehicle through the streets.

The images were captured by another driver and in them the animals are seen being pulled by the passenger transport unit. The complaint intensified after animal protection organizations shared them with the aim of getting local authorities to act against the person responsible.

Faced with media pressure, the Oaxaca Mobility Secretariat reported that an investigation was opened through the Legal Department to revoke the taxi’s concession, in compliance with article 187 of the Mobility Law.

In a press release, Semovi reaffirmed its commitment to safety and respect in public transport, for which they will implement the law that allows them to cancel concessions if the vehicle has been used to commit crimes.
