The senator of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) for Baja California Sur, Lucía Trasviña Waldenrath, made an appeal from the Senate of the Republic for the City Council of Los Cabos, together with the Municipal Planning Institute (IMPLAN), to reconsider the elimination of the Coastal Road to Cabo del Este in the third update of the Urban Development Plan (PDU) 2040.
Among the considerations that the senator took into account to make this appeal, she pointed out that this road is an important route that connects various coastal communities and is the backbone of the neighboring towns from La Rivera to San José del Cabo.
She made some socioeconomic arguments within which she emphasized that the road is the access to beaches of tourist relevance such as Zacatitos and Playa Gorda, so its disappearance will affect tourist activity. She commented that the elimination of the road would generate inequity in access to public resources, as well as restricting access could generate social discontent.
On the ecological issue, she also made clarifications such as that the Coastal Road to Cabo del Este is located in an area of high environmental value and its elimination could fragment habitats, generate urban pressures and affect protected species.
In addition to her comments, the senator supported her statements with international, national and local foundations, among which the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the General Law on Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection (LGEEPA) and the Law on Territorial Planning and Urban Development of the State of Baja California Sur stand out.
