Chapitos vs. Mayitos war crosses Sinaloa borders; now in Durango

On January 25, 2025, the internal conflict of the Sinaloa Cartel between “Los Chapitos” and “La Mayiza” reached the state of Durango. From small planes, alleged members of “Los Chapitos” dropped flyers with names and photographs of politicians, businessmen and police commanders, accusing them of collaborating with “El Mayito Flaco,” leader of the rival faction.

This escalation of violence, which has already left a trail of death in Sinaloa, now threatens to spread throughout the Golden Triangle, putting the security of the region in jeopardy and increasing uncertainty among the population.

Experts warn that violence could move to rural areas and marginalized communities, which would further complicate the response of the authorities. In addition, the fragmentation of the Sinaloa Cartel could lead to the formation of new criminal groups, intensifying the chaos in the region.
