In an effort to strengthen public security in Zacatecas, state authorities have launched an ambitious recruitment call to cover a deficit of 1,700 police officers in the state’s 58 municipalities, according to Manuel Flores Sonduk, executive secretary of the State Public Security System.

The initiative seeks to reach the standard established by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) of 1.8 police officers per thousand inhabitants.

More than 70 percent have not been claimed.

The municipalities of Fresnillo and Pinos have been identified as the most critical areas, with 200 and 50 vacancies respectively.
Particularly alarming is the situation in Pinos, which currently operates with just three police officers.
To encourage recruitment, the program offers a monthly scholarship of 10 thousand pesos to applicants who pass the control and confidence tests.

Once the initial training is completed, the new officers will receive a standard salary along with all the corresponding legal benefits.

It is very important to cover this important deficit that we have today, with these new calls and the new salaries.
Manuel Flores, executive secretary of the State Public Security System.
As part of the recruitment strategy, the authorities have established a collaboration with the Autonomous University of Zacatecas (UAZ) to attract high school and higher education students who show a vocation for service.
