A state police officer from the Special Operations Group (Gopes) and two civilians died in a confrontation early Thursday morning on State Highway 30, in the municipality of Asientos, in the north of the state.
The events occurred when Gopes officers were carrying out surveillance work on the border between Aguascalientes and Zacatecas; while driving on State Highway 30 leading to the community of Las Adjuntas, they stopped the driver of a black GMC Terrein pickup truck, without license plates, with tinted windows, who ignored the signal and accelerated.
Seeing that the occupants of the private vehicle were fleeing, the officers began a chase; in front of Las Adjuntas, the driver lost control of the steering wheel, went off the asphalt and hit a wire fence.
Immediately after, two crew members got out of the truck “and began shooting at the officers, who repelled the attack,” reported the State Secretariat of Public Security.
A police officer was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly after.
The attackers, although they were wearing bulletproof vests and carrying long weapons, died on the spot. The corporation stated that both allegedly belonged to a criminal organization.
The place was cordoned off and the presence of Forensic Services personnel was requested, who were in charge of removing the bodies, to take them to the facilities of the Forensic Medical Service.
