In Chiapas, a second mayor was arrested for being accused of having ties to organized crime.

Rosember López Roblero, mayor of the municipality of Bella Vista, was arrested by the State Police for his alleged ties to organized crime, reported Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar.

In a message on social media, Ramírez Aguilar announced the arrest this morning of Rosember “N” in Bella Vista, a municipality hit for three and a half years by the criminal violence of the Sinaloa Cartel and the Cartel Nueva Generación-Cártel Chiapas Guatemala,” which left dozens of people missing and dead and hundreds uprooted.

“The state attorney general informs me that the mayor of Bella Vista has been arrested for alleged serious crimes committed in his municipality,” announced Ramírez Aguilar on social media. “He has been accused by several people from the Sierra of committing alleged illegal acts. Later, the authorities will give the details of the arrest,” he said.

With López Roblero, there are two mayors arrested in Chiapas within the framework of the Zero Corruption policy undertaken by the Ramírez Aguilar government, which took office on December 8, 2024.

On January 5, José Antonio Villatoro Herrera, mayor of Frontera Comalapa, was arrested. Like Bella Vista, he was involved in a criminal organization dispute since 2021.

The mayor is allegedly responsible for the crime of corruption, and there are also open investigation files against him for the crimes of forced disappearance of persons, aggravated extortion and homicide.

Villatoro’s arrest resulted from investigations and operations carried out in the sierra region, particularly Frontera Comalapa.

It should be noted that, in the June 2 election, Rosember López Roblero won the mayor’s office of Bella Vista, although in the Preliminary Results Program the The winner was Visalí López Rodríguez, who had 2,619 votes against 2,515 obtained by Rosember López Roblero, from Chiapas Unido, who was finally the winner in the final count.

In Comitán de Domínguez, the leader of a market merchant organization identified as Santiago “N” was arrested for the crimes of attacking the peace and physical and property integrity of the State community, to the detriment of society.

Shopkeepers at the 28 de Agosto market in Comitán, headed by the Emiliano Zapata Independent Proletarian Organization (OPIEZ), repeatedly accused Santiago Calvo López, leader of an organization, of forcing them to block roads and hold violent demonstrations.
