The Ministry of the Interior (Segob) reported that no United States authority has requested authorization to fly over Mexican airspace, this after some media outlets indicated that Mexico had prohibited it.
This afternoon, a United States Air Force plane carrying 80 migrants handcuffed and bound from Texas to Guatemala avoided flying over Mexico, according to Border Patrol spokesman Orlando Marrero Rubio, who told AP.

After this news was released, various media outlets assured that Mexico had prohibited the entry of said military flight into the airspace.
Due to the above, the Ministry of the Interior detailed that the United States did not request authorization to fly over national territory, as established by the protocols in the matter.
In addition, it assured that there is permanent communication with United States authorities, and so far, the Ministry of National Defense (Defense) has not had any request regarding military flights in the airspace.
It is worth mentioning that the flight that departed from Fort Bliss, an Army base in El Paso, Texas, was scheduled to last 7 hours, due to the fact that it was prohibited to fly over Mexican airspace, Marrero Rubio told AP.
However, the Border Patrol spokesman also explained that the decision not to fly over Mexican territory was due to the need to agree with the country in advance.
“There are some countries that don’t like military planes entering their territory (…) It’s something that logistically has to be agreed with the country in advance because you don’t want a plane to have to turn around in mid-flight,” he told AP.
These events occur after the American media NBC reported on January 24 that Mexico had denied access to a flight with migrants deported from the United States.
Due to the tensions that exist between Mexico and the United States in relation to the mass deportations of undocumented people and the imposition of 25% tariffs, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has reiterated on several occasions that she will always welcome with open arms Mexicans who return to the country.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has indicated that a good relationship is maintained with the United States and they cooperate with respect for sovereignty.
“Mexico has a very good relationship with the government of the United States and we cooperate with respect for our sovereignty on a wide range of issues, including migration. Regarding repatriations, we will always accept the arrival of Mexicans to our territory with open arms,” she detailed in a document.
For her part, Sheinbaum reported during her morning press conference that since January 20 to the 28 of the same month, more than 6,200 people have been deported to Mexico, of which more than 75% are Mexican.
