The San Miguel de Allende Botanical Garden conducts monthly tours for San Miguel residents and visitors interested in bird watching to learn about the native species and those that arrive at the natural space for shelter from the elements.
The Charco del Ingenio has launched the invitation for the next tour that will take place on Saturday, February 15. This activity takes place once a month and can be attended with prior registration and is free of charge.
In this activity, participants will be able to experience observing birds in freedom on a walk along the paths of the botanical garden to identify resident and migratory species in winter.
A fundamental component of the Charco del Ingenio are the wetlands formed by the San Carlos reservoir, the Las Colonias Dam and the Arroyo del Obraje, where the spring and pool that gives the protected natural area its name are located. These elements make the space a natural refuge for birds that arrive in different seasons to find food and shelter.
The rich network of flora and fauna has been a priority focus of the Botanical Garden since its creation in 1990, as the formation of artificial islands and the restoration of the banks of the dam over the years have fostered the abundant wildlife production that can now be observed in El Charco del Ingenio.
To participate in the experience of observing these species, no previous experience is necessary and the staff at the Botanical Garden will provide you with the necessary material.
