Investigations carried out by the Jalisco State Attorney General’s Office regarding the call center located in the municipality of Guadalajara have revealed an alleged massive fraud that has affected approximately 26,500 people in various cities in Mexico, including Baja California Sur.
The agency reported that it is actively working to locate the victims and encourage them to file a complaint. It also detailed that since January 14, when it became aware of the case, it has carried out various procedures that have allowed it to identify books with telephone numbers of possible victims in states such as:

Given the number of people affected, the Prosecutor’s Office requested the collaboration of its counterparts in the aforementioned states, especially in BCS, to expedite their location and guarantee the protection of their rights.
How did the Guadalajara call center operate to carry out extortions in BCS?
The Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office reported on the progress in the investigation of the call center dismantled in the Magaña neighborhood, where alleged telephone extortions were carried out.
During the search of the property, the authorities seized 52 cell phones, 5 laptops, 29 headsets, 53 notebooks, an agenda, 3 voter ID cards and 5 debit cards. Interviews with the detainees and witnesses allowed the authorities to identify the modus operandi of the scam network.
According to the investigation, the extortionists called their victims making them believe that they had detected unusual movements in their bank accounts. With the promise of helping them solve the problem, they were convinced to download a mobile application that in reality allowed criminals to access their bank accounts and access their money.
