Around 120 members of the National Guard (GN) landed this morning at the Ciudad Juárez airport as part of the agreement between the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to monitor the border.
A commander of the National Guard reported that tomorrow 500 more will arrive by land and come from the state of Durango to join the border surveillance.
The group of GN elements that arrived this morning come from the state of Yucatán, where they were assigned to surveillance tasks.
GN command personnel received the elements on the plane that landed at 9:15 a.m. at the “Abraham González” airport in this city, proceeding to unload their equipment and waiting for the land vehicles to board and begin their work.
They were transferred to the military facilities in Ciudad Juárez where they will be housed for the time they spend carrying out surveillance in the city.
This group was the first to arrive in Ciudad Juárez, between tomorrow and Wednesday at the latest 500 more will arrive to join the fight against organized crime in the city and other border points.
The GN elements will install citizen security posts along the border that divides the United States from this city, giving priority to the fence that divides Anapra and the Juárez valley from our neighboring country where hundreds of migrants and drug shipments have been crossing for decades.
1,500 members of the GN arrive in Sonora
A total of 1,500 elements of the National Guard arrived in Sonora as part of the agreements between Mexico and the United States to combat arms and drug trafficking, with emphasis on fentanyl, and to stop the generators of violence in the region.
Inspector General Ricardo Rodríguez Alexander, chief police coordinator of the National Guard in Sonora, reported that the officers arrived by air and land to Hermosillo, from where they will be deployed in strategic areas of the state, mainly in the border zone.
The operation plans to assign 400 elements to San Luis Río Colorado, 200 to Sonoyta, 100 to Sásabe, 400 to Nogales, 200 to Naco and 200 to Agua Prieta. Their presence will cover customs crossings, highways, urban and rural areas, in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense and authorities of the three levels of government.
Rodríguez Alexander explained that this deployment seeks to reinforce security on the border and stop the trafficking of fentanyl, one of the most lethal drugs, as well as the flow of weapons and the activity of criminal groups in the state.
“The goal is to limit the flow of drugs, specifically fentanyl, as well as arms trafficking, and reduce the generators of violence, as well as the migratory flow. The deployment of personnel will be in coordination with the Secretary of National Defense, with authorities from the three levels of government, and the troops that will arrive, we estimate, are 1,500 elements of the National Guard,” said the GN officer.
In Coahuila, the local police will join
The deployment of the National Guard in Coahuila includes 400 elements that will be distributed along the border, between Piedras Negras and Acuña, reported the governor of the state, Manolo Jiménez Salinas.
In addition, he announced that 300 state and municipal police will join the actions to protect the border crossing.
“More National Guard troops are arriving and will be deployed, especially on the Coahuila border, from the Hidalgo and Boquillas del Carmen areas, with different operations. As a state, we will do the same, deploying more troops, creating more divisions to deal with specific points as a result of this agreement between the President of Mexico and the President of the United States,” said the president.
The National Guard troops arrived in a convoy. They entered Coahuila along the border with Nuevo León, after arriving in military aircraft at the Monterrey international airport.
