6

The next mandatory rest day in Quintana Roo is just around the corner, scheduled for March. Following the February bridge, many workers are curious about when the next official holiday will be. Mark your calendars for Monday, March 17, in commemoration of Benito Juárez’s birthday on March 21.

Holiday Regulations

According to the Federal Labor Law (LFT), mandatory rest days are considered public holidays. These days, workers are not required to provide their services. If they do, they are entitled to double pay for their work, resulting in triple their usual daily salary.

Compensation for Working on a Rest Day

If you work on a mandatory rest day, your employer must pay you double the normal daily rate in addition to your regular salary. This means you’ll receive triple your usual daily pay for that day.

Rest Day Falls on a Sunday

If the mandatory rest day coincides with a Sunday, which is the weekly rest day for many workers, the law does not mandate additional compensation. However, some companies may offer an extra day off on another date.

Other Mandatory Rest Days in Quintana Roo

Besides March 17, the LFT designates several other mandatory rest days throughout the year, including January 1, May 1, September 16, and December 25, among others.
