Campeche ranks first in poverty in the Yucatán Peninsula, with 45.1% of its 954,659 residents living in such conditions, according to the annual report by the Ministry of Welfare.
The 2025 report on poverty and social backwardness indicates that Campeche has 428,968 people living in poverty. This figure includes 337,309 individuals (35.5%) in moderate poverty and 91,659 (9.6%) in extreme poverty. Additionally, 263,303 residents (27.7%) are vulnerable due to social deprivation, and 56,034 (5.9%) are vulnerable due to income.
The study also highlights that Quintana Roo ranks 19th out of 32 states, with 27% of its 2.04 million inhabitants living in poverty. Yucatán ranks 10th, with 38.8% of its 2.4 million residents in poverty.
These statistics underscore the pressing need for effective measures to address poverty and social backwardness in Campeche and the Yucatán Peninsula.
