Heavy rains are forecast in Coahuila, Sinaloa and Durango

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico indicated that heavy rains are forecast in the states of Coahuila, Sinaloa and Durango, with accumulations of between 25 and 50 millimeters (mm), due to a trough at altitude, a cyclonic circulation in medium and high levels of the atmosphere, low pressure channels and a dry line in Coahuila. Showers are also expected in several states, with precipitation of between 5 and 25 mm in Chihuahua, Michoacán, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz and Quintana Roo, and isolated rains in Baja California, Sonora, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Querétaro, State of Mexico, Mexico City and Campeche.

The rains could be accompanied by electrical discharges and hail, so the population is recommended to follow the instructions of the National Meteorological Service (SMN) and Civil Protection.

Strong winds are also expected in various regions of the country, with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h in Chihuahua and Durango, 60 to 80 km/h in Baja California, Sonora, Coahuila and Zacatecas, and 40 to 60 km/h in Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. Dust storms are also expected in certain areas of Baja California, Sonora, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and other states.

For the western coast of the Baja California peninsula, waves of 2 to 4 meters high are expected.

Regarding temperatures, minimum temperatures of -10 to -5°C are expected with frost in mountainous areas of Baja California, Chihuahua and Durango, and minimum temperatures of 0 to 5°C in various areas of the country. In contrast, a hot climate will prevail in the northeast, west, center and southeast of Mexico, with maximum temperatures of 40 to 45°C in Michoacán, Guerrero and Oaxaca, and 35 to 40°C in several areas of the country.

The population is advised to stay well hydrated, wear light clothing, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and pay special attention to children and the elderly in the face of high temperatures.
