Cozumel is set to receive a significant economic boost as 37 cruise ships carrying a total of 119,907 tourists will dock on the island during the week of February 10 to 16. The anticipated economic impact is nearly 11 million dollars.
According to the Quintana Roo Port Authority (Apiqroo), the week began on Monday with the arrival of seven cruise ships, bringing approximately 18,464 guests and generating an estimated 1.69 million dollars in economic activity.
Daily Tourist Influx
– Tuesday, February 11: Another seven ships are expected to bring 19,758 tourists, contributing an estimated 1.81 million dollars.
– Wednesday, February 12: Six ships will arrive with 22,249 visitors, generating about 2.04 million dollars in economic benefits.
– Thursday, February 13: Five ships are set to bring 18,362 passengers, adding an estimated 1.68 million dollars to the local economy.
– Friday, February 14: On Valentine’s Day, five transatlantic ships will bring 19,109 travelers, expected to spend around 1.75 million dollars.
– Saturday, February 15: Six ships will arrive with 17,620 guests, generating an estimated 1.61 million dollars.
– Sunday, February 16: The week will conclude with one ship carrying 4,345 passengers, contributing approximately 397,481 dollars.
Community and Business Impact
José Luis Chacón Méndez, the municipal authority, emphasized the importance of these “floating hotels” in reaffirming Cozumel’s leadership in tourism within Mexico and the Caribbean. The collaborative efforts of tourism workers, the private sector, and municipal and state governments have helped promote the island and its cultural attractions, such as the Cozumel 2025 Carnival.
Representatives of local restaurants and bars anticipate a significant increase in demand for their services, particularly on Valentine’s Day, potentially exceeding initial economic impact estimates.
