This Sunday, municipal authorities of Zacatecas inaugurated the Municipal League Elit Flag (Flag Football), a sports space that seeks to promote physical activity and healthy recreation among citizens.

Representing Mayor Miguel Varela, the Chief of Staff, César Herrera Ceniceros, was present at the inauguration, where he highlighted that, by instructions of the municipal president, “all athletes have the door open in the city hall.”

He stressed the importance of these activities for social cohesion and pointed out that “the fact that we are here is to promote this type of sports activities that are of great importance for the rescue of the social fabric.”

During the event, Nancy Espinoza, Secretary of Solidarity and Human Development, also participated, and stressed that from her office all sports branches in Zacatecas will be promoted.

“To all people who practice any sporting activity and who require support, come to the presidency.

Our mayor Miguel Varela has given us the instruction to promote, but above all support everything that has to do with sports in the Capital,” he said. Present at the inauguration were Raúl Calcanat, director of Youth of the presidency of Zacatecas; Óscar Contreras, councilman of the City Council; as well as members of the Municipal Flag Football League, among them Deysi Umbreras, president of the Tochito League.

Other distinguished members of the sports industry and the general public were also present, who supported this sports initiative. The league is open to mixed teams of at least five players, in a free category, under the regulations of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) in the 5vs5 modality.

The games are played in two 20-minute periods, with two additional effective minutes. In the first half, three men and two women line up, and in the second half, three women and two men. This football modality does not have direct physical contact, since the play ends when the flag is removed from a player. The meetings will be held every Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Colinas del Padre Sports Complex, Zacatecas.

With this initiative, municipal authorities seek to promote inclusion and participation in sports activities, strengthening the social fabric and promoting healthy lifestyle habits.
