Surprise Search Uncovers Contraband at Cozumel Penitentiary

During a surprise search of the Cozumel penitentiary, authorities uncovered a variety of prohibited items, including adult toys, refrigerators, and illicit substances.

According to the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Quintana Roo, the operation aimed to detect and confiscate non-permitted items within the prison. The search yielded five adult toys, cell phones, and even refrigerators.

Among the confiscated items were:

– Two refrigerators

– 12 cigarette packs

– 35 lighters

– A calculator

– Three watches

– 23 speakers of various sizes

– 19 USBs

– Seven chargers with cables

– A painting of the Santa Muerte

– Two television decoders

– A 14-inch television

– Two scissors

– A microwave oven

– Two homemade grills

– Three envelopes containing two grams of marijuana each

– 10 homemade pipes

– Four envelopes of tobacco paper

Additionally, authorities found toy guns, perfumes, screwdrivers, nail clippers, and more.

The SSC emphasized that these measures are preventive to avoid the entry of prohibited items and maintain order within the prison.

This discovery highlights the ongoing challenges of ensuring security and contraband control in correctional facilities.
