Carlos Alberto Guarneros Argüelles, a student at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx), was last seen in Toluca on February 8. After several days of being missing, his body was discovered in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

Bathers in Playa del Carmen alerted authorities when they saw a man floating in the sea. Emergency protocols were immediately activated, but the efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. The 24-year-old, known by friends as “Chori,” was already deceased.

His identity was confirmed through a UAEMéx credential found among his belongings. Upon this identification, Carlos’s family was notified of his death.

The Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo has launched an investigation into the circumstances of Carlos’s death. Authorities are working to determine how he ended up in Playa del Carmen, whether he traveled there willingly or was forced, and if he was accompanied at the time of his death.
