During 2023, 44.5% of economic units used the internet to carry out their activities, the second highest percentage in the country, according to the timely results of the Economic Census (CE) of 2024.
There are 43,366 economic units that reported using the internet to employ digital technology tools.
Above Querétaro, Baja California Sur was ranked first with 45.1% of economic units that used the internet, according to the CE of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
With this result, Querétaro reported 18.3 percentage points more than the national average, because 26.2% of businesses in the country used the internet in their work.
This is the first time that aspects related to the use of digital technology in economic units were included in the CE.
In Querétaro, the way businesses used the Internet the most was through search engines, as stated by 84%; the second most frequent use was to create repositories, this was the response of 59.3% of the units.
With results below 50%, the next most common use was to operate online stores (48.3%), for the use of remote controlled devices (44.8%), cloud computing services (33.2%), and even for mass data processing (24.7 percent).
Only 2% use AI
Among the economic units that use the Internet in digital technology tools, only 2.1% used it in 3D printing services; while 2% said they used it in artificial intelligence (AI) systems; and 1.5% in advanced robotics.
At the national level, these three technologies also register a low level of integration in the businesses that used the Internet in their activities; In Mexico, only 2.2% used the internet for three-dimensional printing, 2.1% for AI systems, and 1.2% for advanced robotics.
In this indicator, economic units reported having used more than one type of digital technology.
Online sales
The economic census also revealed that in the last five years in Querétaro, the indicator of economic units that use the online sales system increased by 6.3 percentage points.
This percentage went from 6.6% of businesses that reported this in 2018 to 12.9% of businesses that used online sales in 2023. Therefore, the percentage of units that did not make online sales went from 93.4 to 87.1% between those years.
