In addition to the closure of bars and nightclubs due to insecurity in Tabasco, restaurants are now joining in. The latest was Ancestral, located in front of the recently remodeled Malecón de Villahermosa, a few steps from the Historic Center of this city.
Its owners published a message on social networks in which they reported that they are suspending activities until further notice to maintain their own tranquility in the face of the wave of violence in Tabasco.
“Today we decided to close temporarily, our peace and tranquility are worth more than any situation, we confess that it hurts us a lot to make this decision, but the insecurity in Tabasco overwhelms us and we cannot do anything about it, unfortunately there is no one to protect us and much less anyone we can trust,” the message reads.
Since an armed attack was recorded in November 2024 in a nightclub in the hotel zone of the capital of Tabasco, which left six dead, various establishments stopped activities or restricted hours. In addition, a dozen concerts and shows have been canceled.
“Thanks to each of you who gave yourself the opportunity to visit @ancestralrooftop, thank you for those nights with friends and for having shared such special moments together. We are sure that there are more of us good people and we know that sooner or later the bad happens and when that happens God and the universe will conspire so that we return stronger than ever to celebrate life under a sky full of stars, good food and the best DJs,” the restaurant’s message concludes.
During his recent visit to the state, the president of Concanaco Servytur Mexico, Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, stated that the insecurity that is registered in Tabasco must be resolved as soon as possible due to the effects on the economy and the lives of citizens.
In a press conference, he described “the concern of everyone as genuine,” which is why he considered “fundamental that these aspects are resolved.”
This Wednesday, the Secretary of Government of Tabasco, José Ramiro “Pepín” López Obrador, said that insecurity in the state is a “more media” issue than a real one and attributed the acts of violence to the dispute between two criminal groups for control of drug sales.

During the event “We Are All Heroes,” organized by the Mexican Red Cross, López Obrador explained that Governor Javier May could not attend because he was in Mexico City in a meeting with the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch.
“It is a more media-driven issue than what is really happening in Tabasco. We say it, the fight is between two groups that are fighting for the plaza. Of course, there is some collateral damage, because sometimes there are citizens who are in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said.
The official stressed that most of the deaths recorded correspond to members of the criminal groups in conflict and stated that the state government does not make pacts with crime.
López Obrador stressed that President Claudia Sheinbaum is giving full support to the state to restore peace.
“Comrade Claudia Sheinbaum has stated that she will support Tabasco with everything and she is doing so. We know that he is supporting our colleague Javier May and the people of Tabasco who want peace,” he said.
The state government insists that violence has not escalated to the level that some media suggest and that measures are being taken to guarantee security in the state.
