A new scandal has involved municipal police officers in Puebla. Three of them were arrested for being intoxicated and for firing gunshots in the Bosques del Pilar neighborhood. These officers were supposedly serving as bodyguards for the deputy director of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC). In addition to being discharged, they were placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry agent.
According to police sources, the events occurred at around 3 a.m. on February 12. The police officers were apparently on leave, that is, on their day off.
After they fired multiple gunshots, neighbors who woke up due to the noise called the emergency number 9-1-1 to ask for help for an alleged shooting at the location.
For the above, agents of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of the municipality of Puebla went to the site, where they were surprised to find that the accused were three elements of the same corporation, so they were detained along with the white vehicle in which they were traveling.
SSC confirms that the gendarmes were intoxicated
In this regard, the SSC issued a press release in which it first recognizes the arrest of three of its agents, and then confirms that they were intoxicated.
Elements of the City Police detained three men in a state of intoxication who were firing gunshots in the Bosques del Pilar neighborhood
According to the agency, after corroborating their identifications, it was confirmed that they were elements of the SSC. “Therefore, not only was the corresponding internal procedure immediately initiated to suspend them from their position, they were also placed at the disposal of the agent of the Public Ministry for abuse of authority,” detailed the Police.
The Public Security Secretariat announced that the accused was dismissed from office, since there is zero tolerance for illegal practices and kickbacks.
The SSC defended and highlighted that the implementation of new protocols for police unity and proximity to citizens has allowed for more transparent and efficient actions, contributing to eradicating impunity from both external and internal agents in security actions.
Finally, the corporation said it reaffirmed its commitment to not allow any conduct that threatens the trust of citizens or discredits the institution.
Although it was reported that the three detained would be bodyguards of Gustavo Alonso Zapata, undersecretary of the SSC with code name “Sauce,” this has not been confirmed.
