A married couple, identified as Luciano and Kathy, arrived in the state of Puebla to spend December 31 with their family, after 20 years had passed since the man decided to migrate to the United States. They spent more than a month in the community of Buenos Aires, belonging to the municipality of Jopala and then, what was a family reunion became a tragedy for the couple who were victims of a brutal murder in Tlapacoya.

The lifeless bodies were found next to that of another person, identified as Darío, in a Tornado truck with license plates LYB332A, on a dirt road on the border of both municipalities in the Sierra Norte of Puebla, exactly at the point known as “Las Fincas”.

The first reports only exposed the fact, but later it was learned that the people found dead had family ties and that there was another dead person related to the same case, identified as Lesther, who would have been the owner of the van in which they were heading to the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to board their trip back to the United States.

Darío wanted to travel with the couple to say goodbye
Darío, the other victim found inside the van was Luciano’s younger brother and according to the information available, he was there because he wanted to accompany the couple to Mexico City to say goodbye to them.

For this reason, they decided to hire the services of Lesther, a taxi driver known in the community for making these types of trips as a way of making a living.

The information available so far on this case indicates that Dario, 29, Luciano, 41, and his wife Kathy, 41, originally from Florida, had only taken a recreational trip and until now the authorities are still investigating to determine the motive for this crime.

This case became even stranger when it was learned that Lesther, 45, who was the owner of the van that was to transport them to the airport, had been reported missing by his brother, since Luciano’s family had supposedly requested the loan or the hiring of the vehicle to make the trip to the airport.

In addition, in the case of this homicide victim, his body was located on the border with Jopala, so at first he had not been linked to this crime, until it was revealed that he was the alleged driver and owner of the Tornado van in which they were traveling and in which they were found dead.

Another version maintains that all this would have been caused by an armed robbery, reason why they demand justice and ask that they be stopped from being linked to illegal activities, since, they claim, they were victims of the insecurity of the Sierra Norte of Puebla.

Who made the discovery of the bodies in the Sierra Norte?

The report to 911 that informed the authorities about this terrible event was made by a farmer who was passing through the place known as Monte de Chila, which leads to the community of Ahuacatlaya.

It was thus that municipal police from Tlapacoya arrived, confirmed the event and then requested the presence of Agents from the State Attorney General’s Office for the proceedings and the removal of the bodies.

This investigation is still ongoing and the authorities in Puebla have made a commitment to society to find the causes of this incident and to find those responsible, who have added one more crime to the more than three violent incidents that have been recorded in municipalities in the north of Puebla in the last month.
