Three activists from the Union of Indigenous Communities of the Northern Zone of the Isthmus (Ucizoni) were killed this Thursday in the border area between the municipalities of Santo Domingo Petapa and San Juan Mazatlán, in Oaxaca, apparently due to an agrarian conflict.
According to the Mixe indigenous organization, a group of unknown persons armed with firearms ambushed, around 2:30 p.m., the vehicle in which their companions Wilfrido Atanacio, Victoriano Quirino and Abraham Chirino were traveling, near the Río del Sol area. The disappearance of the municipal agent of El Platanillo, Leonel Cristóbal, is also reported.
According to reports, the attack was apparently perpetrated by members of the Santo Domingo Petapa community, especially from the El Zapote community.
He stressed that the residents of El Platanillo, where the three deceased militants were from, are entrenched in the face of threats from the aggressors to attack the community.
The agrarian dispute arose in 1972 due to the presidential resolution where 32 thousand hectares were recognized in San Juan Mazatlán, reported the Indigenous Communication Program (PCI) of the organization.
However, in recent years different bloody events have begun to occur, above all, the assault on the Loma community, Santo Domingo Petapa.
In light of this, Ucizoni demanded that the state government act immediately and provide the necessary security guarantees to the residents.
