Querétaro reaches 76% coverage in influenza vaccination

The influenza vaccination campaign in Querétaro is moving forward with 472,475 doses administered to date, representing 76.27% of the established goal of 619,499 doses.

Health authorities have reiterated the call to the population in risk groups to complete coverage before the end of the winter season.

So far this period, 466 positive cases of seasonal influenza have been confirmed in the state. Most of the infections have been registered in the municipality of Querétaro, with 342 cases, followed by San Juan del Río with 36 and El Marqués with 21.

The rest of the municipalities have lower figures, although the presence of the virus is widespread throughout the state.

The state report also indicates four deaths related to influenza, which occurred in the municipalities of El Marqués, Pedro Escobedo and Querétaro. None of the deceased had received the vaccine.

At the national level, confirmed influenza infections have reached 6,033, with 63 deaths recorded in 20 states of the country. Sonora, Puebla and Nuevo León lead the list of entities with the highest number of deaths associated with the virus. Querétaro appears in the statistics with three deaths.

The state registered an average of 1.7 daily deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in the first six months of the year
Health authorities have insisted on the importance of vaccination, especially in vulnerable sectors such as children under five, older adults, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases.

Influenza manifests itself with a sudden high fever, dry cough, muscle pain, headache and general malaise. Although most cases resolve within a week, in people with pre-existing conditions the disease can lead to serious complications.

In Querétaro, the vaccine is administered in the 198 health centers of the state, in addition to a vaccination post in Plaza de Armas. It is also available in IMSS clinics during business hours.

Health recommendations include avoiding sudden changes in temperature, washing hands frequently, ventilating closed spaces and covering coughs or sneezes with the elbow. In addition, the population has been asked to avoid self-medication and to go to the doctor in case of persistent symptoms.
