Governor Alejandro Armenta confirmed today that talks with the company Viva Aerobús and other airlines to establish new routes from Puebla to New York continue.
In his morning press conference he assured that the contacts he has with the airline belonging to businessman Roberto Alcántara Rojas and with other companies will allow him to reactivate “the dynamism of Puebla in terms of air routes.”
The route would be from the Puebla International Airport (AIP), also known as Hermanos Serdán, to the cities of Los Angeles and New York, in the United States.
Armenta stated that during his meeting with the federal secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, the proposal was made to reinforce the capacities of the Puebla air terminal, located in Huejotzingo.
Armenta stressed that it is proposed to strengthen, in the first instance, the connectivity with both cities since these routes “have an important economic attraction for the population.”
Both destinations have a large Mexican population of Puebla origin. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), 29.9 and 17.1 percent of Puebla residents with a Consular Registration in the United States were registered in New York and Los Angeles, respectively.
Support for migrants in the United States from Puebla
Regarding migration, the governor of Puebla reported that he will travel to the United States again during the first week of March to supervise the maintenance of the Puebla representative offices in Los Angeles, New York and New Jersey.
He reported that the legal representation of Puebla migrants will be strengthened to guarantee their defense against the growing number of deportations undertaken by the Donald Trump government.
The governor reported that there will be a greater number of lawyers “specializing in Anglo-Saxon law,” stating that for his administration “the presence of Puebla is very important to support President Claudia Sheinbaum.”
