The coordinator of the Morena parliamentary faction in the Congress of Oaxaca, Benjamín Viveros, presented a request to initiate an investigation against the former governor and now senator of the republic for his own party, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa.

The petition was addressed to the Secretary of Honesty of the Government of Oaxaca, to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption of the State and to the Secretary of Public Function of the federal Government.

According to the leader of the Morena bench in the 66th Legislature of the State, the investigation must be carried out for the alleged diversion of three billion pesos.

In today’s ordinary session, the local deputy explained that the government of Oaxaca maintains with the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), which is not a recent matter, it has been dragging on since 2008 and has generated a financial impact that amounts to nearly three billion.

“This debt is not just a figure in the accounting books; it is the reflection of a systematic omission that directly affects state workers, who have been denied access to benefits to which they are legitimately entitled. It is also an example of how the lack of transparency and administrative irresponsibility can seriously harm public finances and citizen confidence in their institutions,” he said.

Benjamín Viveros pointed out that in March 2021, in an attempt to remedy this situation, a Debt Recognition and Payment Method Agreement was signed between the State Government and the ISSSTE.

However, he assured that to date there is no evidence that the state Executive, then in charge of Alejandro Murat, has complied with the obligation to inform this Congress in detail about the status of compliance with said agreement.

“This omission is unacceptable. We are facing a monumental act of corruption, a deliberate omission that not only affected public finances, but also trampled on the rights of thousands of state workers,” he said.

Between 2008 and 2020, state governments stopped paying workers’ fees and contributions to ISSSTE and which are deducted from their payroll. Viveros assured that Alejandro Murat is the main culprit “of this scandal” because he had the possibility of correcting this debt and did not do so.

In his exhortation to the Secretariat of Honesty, Transparency and Public Function, he asks to investigate and, if irregularities are found, to initiate the corresponding administrative and legal procedures against those responsible. “No former governor, no matter how influential, can be above the law,” he said.
