Tulum airport continues to increase its routes; now negotiations are being held with a Spanish airline to have direct transatlantic flights to this air terminal.
Andrés Martínez, general director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), has highlighted the connectivity that the Tulum airport is achieving with the Cancun airport, in addition to the Mayan Train, as he assures that there are already Canadian tourists who arrive through Tulum and return through Cancun or vice versa.
Although the Mexican Caribbean continues to add routes from airlines from Europe and the USA, South American tourists are increasingly fewer, especially Colombians who have faced mistreatment from immigration authorities on the Bogotá-Tulum route.
At the Tulum airport, the entry fees for tourist transport have increased to 933 Mexican pesos (about 46 dollars), which represents an increase in costs for travelers. (Tulum Airport: anger over increased fares for transporters).
The National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), the airport administrator, will impose the charge starting this month under the concept of “sporadic access.” However, the official rates have not yet been published.
