The Autonomous University of the State of Quintana Roo (Uqroo) has secured an agreement with the University of St. Mary’s, Texas, enabling its law graduates to obtain a license to practice in Texas.

On March 6, Uqroo’s Academic Mobility unit will provide more details about this initiative aimed at expanding opportunities for its law graduates.

According to Aldo Alonso Serrato, head of Mobility at Uqroo’s General Directorate of Student Services, this agreement is made possible by reforms allowing Mexicans to earn a litigation license in Texas through a master’s degree from a U.S. university.

“Previously, foreign lawyers needed a U.S. degree to take the Texas Bar exam, involving significant time and financial investment. However, in 2014, the Texas Bar Association revised its requirements, permitting foreign lawyers with a law degree and professional license to take the exam after completing a Master’s in Law in American legal studies,” Alonso Serrato explained.

On March 6 at 11 a.m., a virtual conference titled “Get your license to litigate in Texas” will provide further information on obtaining visas, scholarships, and university admission. This information will be available in English on the Uqroo Mobility Facebook page.

Uqroo will soon sign a collaboration agreement with St. Mary’s School of Law, establishing an academic relationship that offers better conditions for access to the master’s program, specialized advice, and support during the admission process.
