In a shocking turn of events, businessman Arturo Williams and his wife, Eva M., were arrested on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in connection with alleged child abuse against two minors. The couple had been hiding in the exclusive Real del Sol residential area in Playa del Carmen for approximately nine months after being accused by the victims.
The allegations of rape and abuse were made public during a Mañanera, where Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo addressed the situation. This led to widespread protests and blockades in various states, including Hidalgo, where the case is currently being settled.
According to eyewitnesses, numerous patrols participated in the operation that led to Arturo Williams’ arrest on 95th Avenue and Benito Juárez Street. The Federal Ministerial Police, in coordination with the Investigation Police, carried out the arrest.
The couple was transferred to Hidalgo to be presented before a Control Judge, who will determine their legal status. In December, a federal judge issued an indirect injunction in favor of the victims, ordering the arrest and prosecution of those involved.
The investigation file had been brought to court, but the accused businessman and politician were released after Judge Janeth Montiel Mendoza determined that there was no crime. However, with the case gaining more public attention and reaching the Mañanera, the blockades in Hidalgo became a strong demand for justice for the victims.
The mother and aunt of the minors have denounced political protection in the case and alleged irregularities in the Judiciary that favored those identified as aggressors. The accused doctor who certified the medical opinion was subsequently denounced by Arturo Williams, which raised further questions about the handling of the case.
With the couple’s arrest, justice may finally be served for the victims of child abuse. The community is still demanding an end to impunity and clarity in the case, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. This development brings hope to the victims and their families, who have been fighting for justice for months.
