An eight-year-old boy, affectionately known as “Pelón,” died on Tuesday in the Kanasín municipality of Yucatán, reportedly due to severe beatings inflicted by his mother.
Residents claim that the boy endured ongoing domestic violence. They accuse his mother and her partner, another woman, of being responsible for his death, suggesting that the child was beaten as a form of punishment.
Witnesses reported that it was the boy’s brother who left the house to seek help while “Pelón” was being assaulted by the couple. Police from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) and personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) arrived at the scene, where they removed the boy’s body around 10 p.m.
Authorities have yet to confirm the official cause of death, with another version suggesting it may have been due to an asthma attack. Amid the speculation, the SSP acknowledged receiving the report of the child’s death and confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“Elements of the State Investigation Police (PEI) went to the site to carry out the necessary procedures. The case is under investigation, so it is not possible to provide more information at this time,” the SSP stated.
The mother and her partner have been taken into custody to determine their responsibility in the boy’s death.
