Transporters reported the presence of fake checkpoints on the Puebla-Orizaba highway, before the Esperanza toll booth, in the direction of Veracruz. According to reports, criminals use flashing lights to try to blind drivers, force them to stop, check their merchandise and assault them.
Video of the alleged checkpoints on the Puebla-Orizaba highway
A video, recorded from the cabin of a trailer on February 13, shows how the subjects operate. In the recording, the driver can be seen driving normally until, meters ahead, flashing lights appear that simulate an official checkpoint.
Moments later, the alleged assailants are seen, who are not wearing a uniform or official insignia.
The strategic location of Puebla, crossed by several highways, has turned the state into a frequent point of cargo theft.
Safety tips for transporters
The Puebla-Orizaba highway is no stranger to robberies or false checkpoints like the one presented above, so if you are a transporter, you can follow these tips when traveling on roads:
🚛 Prevention and planning
Plan your route well: use main roads and avoid low-traffic or high-risk roads
Check safety reports: use transport groups, apps or live reports on road incidents
Avoid dangerous times: if you can, travel during the day and avoid risk areas at night
Rest in safe places
🚔 How to identify and avoid false checkpoints
Observe the signage: an official checkpoint must have visible signs, identifiable patrols and uniformed personnel
Do not stop immediately: if you have doubts, reduce speed, but do not stop until you are sure
Call 911: if you think the checkpoint is false, contact the Police to verify
Keep your distance: do not get off the truck immediately and observe the Behavior of alleged agents
Have documents and a camera on hand: If it is a legitimate checkpoint, show documents from the vehicle and, if you can, record the interaction
