Querétaro has registered 555 positive cases of seasonal influenza as of February 20, according to the state Health Secretariat. Of the total, 329 are women and 226 men, with ages ranging from one month to 96 years. Most of the infections are concentrated in Querétaro capital with 411 cases, followed by San Juan del Río with 42, while other municipalities such as Amealco, Cadereyta, Corregidora and El Marqués also have confirmed cases.
The data update on the SISVER platform revealed that 13 deaths have occurred in the state during the current influenza season. Of these, nine correspond to residents of Querétaro, two to El Marqués and one to the municipalities of Ezequiel Montes and Pedro Escobedo. At the national level, as of February 17, 6,836 cases and 66 deaths have been reported, of which three occurred in Querétaro.
Health authorities have reiterated their call to the population at risk to get vaccinated against influenza. Groups such as children under six years of age, older adults, pregnant women and people with chronic diseases such as diabetes or asthma are more likely to suffer serious complications. The cold season increases the circulation of the virus, so prevention is key.
