Oaxaca’s gastronomy won the award for Best Gastronomic Destination in Mexico at the Food and Travel Reader Awards 2024; it also won awards in three other categories, making it one of the most important destinations in the country and a favorite among national and international tourists.
During the ceremony held in Mexico City, the head of the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Oaxaca (Sectur), Saymi Pineda Velasco, said that these recognitions highlight the work of the restaurant and hotel sector, traditional cooks and service providers.

Before the media, the Secretary of Tourism highlighted that this award confirms that Oaxaca is an unmissable destination and reaffirms itself as the heart and soul of the country’s culinary culture.
In addition to the recognition of the state, there were awards for some establishments for their outstanding proposal in Oaxaca. (Special)
“The award for Best Gastronomic Destination is a tribute to our roots, to the wise hands of our ancestors who, through food, transmitted love for generations; it is a tribute to the knowledge and flavors that our mothers inherited from us, which continue to conquer palates around the world and which for the people of Oaxaca, evokes childhood, unforgettable moments and family stories,” she said.

Finally, he highlighted that Oaxaca is a land proud of its roots and increasingly recognized as a protagonist in the tourist markets, thanks to the promotion and drive that Governor Salomón Jara Cruz has given to this sector, to ensure that this activity becomes a driving force of economic and social transformation.
