As part of the proper handling of two-wheeled units driven by human power, the collective of Cultura Bike Mexico-Sonora makes a series of recommendations to prevent mishaps of any kind.
In this regard, Sebastián Gaxiola Gómez, representative of the organization in the region, said that any type of accident is regrettable, especially when it has fatal consequences, which is why they will continue with their actions aimed at improving the culture and respect towards those who use the bicycle as a means of transport for sport or for work.
He recalled that the last regrettable accident was where a cyclist lost his life when he collided with a unit of the Criminal Investigation Ministerial Agency (AMIC), which is shown in the videos about the events that occurred, so in this type of events the call is to both parties for the proper handling of the units.
“We as Cultura Bike, will continue to promote the right to road safety with regulations and laws that provide certainty for those who use the bicycle,” he said.
In this regard, he said that, for his part, the main thing for a person to go out on the street on a bicycle is to use a safety helmet, front and rear lights, ride in the rightmost lane, use the bike lanes where they are available and never try to outrun the traffic light and cars.
Gaxiola Gómez added that, given the lack of respect of many motorists towards cyclists, the only thing left is to warn them and not get into risky situations.
“It is necessary to make it clear that cyclists must always follow driving recommendations, this due to the lack of road culture that exists, taking into account speed, the circulation environment and always riding in the same direction as vehicles.
For its part, the Municipal Traffic Department called on cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists to do so with caution when going out on public roads.
For his part, David Sánchez Velázquez, spokesman for the Municipal Traffic Department, said that in the last week there were 38 road accidents, in which 16 people were injured.
He specified that there were 27 collisions between vehicles, two run-overs, two overturns, three falls of passengers and four impacts against fixed objects.
During that period, 3,388 infractions were applied, of which 482 were for speeding, 752 for not respecting traffic lights, 314 for using a cell phone, 352 for parking in a prohibited area, among others.
