Josefina Rodríguez announces that Mexico will host the ITB tourism fair for three years

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that during the next edition of the International Tourism Berlin (ITB) 2025, which will be held from March 3 to 6, it will be announced that Mexico will be the host country of the “Las Américas” edition for three years, the first edition of which will be in November 2026.

When presenting the results and the tourism policy of the current administration at the conference entitled “Legislativa del Pueblo” (People’s Legislature), and accompanied by deputies Arturo Ávila Anaya and Ricardo Monreal Ávila, she invited the legislators to work together to consolidate tourism activity as a generator of shared prosperity and a multiplier of wealth.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) added that, in the current administration, an ordering of the Magical Towns will be carried out to strengthen the localities that already have this designation; The above, through guidelines to categorize them, and provide the tourist with more detailed information about each destination, in order to improve their experience.

He also assured that a community tourism policy will be promoted, for which 13 regions have been drawn up geographically distributed throughout Mexico, and that they will be organized tourism products that will directly benefit the resident communities.

He added that it is a tourism managed by people and authorities of the localities, with indigenous and/or Afro-Mexican population that preserve traditions, history and ancient culture, under a scheme of preservation, restoration, regeneration of the biocultural heritage and equitable distribution of benefits derived from tourism activity; and he added that to improve the infrastructure of these localities and market these experiences, the sum of efforts between the 3 levels of government, private initiative and academia is essential.

Rodríguez Zamora expressed the importance of consolidating the main tourist-issuing markets to Mexico and promoting emerging markets, through diversification and promotion to make Mexico the fifth most visited country in the world, as instructed by the President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

In this regard, she celebrated that “Puntos México” will be established in the country’s embassies and consulates abroad, an initiative that Congress joined, as a window to promote Mexico in the world, and that will generate a direct positive impact on national artisans.

He highlighted the vast cultural, natural, artisanal and gastronomic wealth that places Mexico as the sixth most visited nation in the world, in addition to being the first place in the world in natural resources and the fifth in cultural resources in 2024.

He also highlighted the results of this activity within the national economy, representing 8.6% of the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023, 4.4 percent more compared to 2022; In addition, the employed population in Mexico’s tourism sector rose to 4 million 902 thousand people employed in the period July-September 2024.

He pointed out that according to the results of the International Traveler Surveys published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), during 2024, 86.4 million international visitors arrived in Mexico during 2024, 15.5 percent more than in 2023, with a historic spill of 32 thousand 956 million dollars, 7.4 percent more than 2023 and 34.1 percent more than 2019.

In terms of governance, he commented that the “coordination of all actors has resulted in a united and strengthened tourism sector that works for social, inclusive and sustainable tourism, where everyone is integrated into the value chain.”

He thanked Congressman Arturo Ávila for the invitation to an “open and informed forum on legislative work”; Congressman Sergio Gutiérrez, president of the Board of Directors; Congressman Ricardo Monreal, president of the Political Coordination Board, as well as Enrique Vázquez, secretary of the Tourism Commission.

“Mexico belongs to everyone, Mexico is its brand, and we all have to shout that today, Mexico is in fashion and that we are ready to receive many more tourists in our country” he concluded.
