Narco-Terror in Southern Quintana Roo: A Crisis Unveiled

4

The Caborca Cartel, led by José Gil Caro Quintero, has solidified its dominance in the Southern Zone of Quintana Roo, unleashing a wave of terror and violence. After expelling “Los Chapitos” and forging connections with certain politicians and officials, the cartel has embarked on a brutal purge within its ranks.

Today, they stand as the dominant criminal group in the region, spreading fear and death with the support of corrupt authorities. The once peaceful life of Quintana Roo’s capital and the municipality of Othón P. Blanco has been shattered by escalating violence, leaving the community in mourning.

Acts of Narcoterrorism

The cartel’s reign of terror has reached rural communities, where they have set fire to houses and vehicles, all while the authorities remain complicitly silent. Their true acts of narcoterrorism aim to demonstrate their dominance and control over isolated and neglected areas.

In less than 24 hours, a series of violent incidents have catapulted the state into one of the most violent entities in the country. The authorities’ efforts to hide and distort the truth through media silence and manipulated statistics only exacerbate the suffering of Quintana Roo’s residents.

The Wave of Violence

The apparent tranquility in Othón P. Blanco has been disrupted by an escalation of violence, resulting in at least ten executions within the last week. The violent events span multiple communities, including a homicide in Javier Rojo Gómez, five executions in Sacxán, three more in Melchor Ocampo, and an armed confrontation in the Solidaridad neighborhood of the municipal capital.

Despite the authorities’ worrying about secrecy regarding these crimes, sources confirmed to CAMBIO 22 that the perpetrators belong to the Caborca Cartel. The ongoing internal purge is reflected in a card left on one of the bodies found in Sacxán, addressed to alleged members of a rival group.

Key Incidents

– On Tuesday night, Guilbert Córdova Hernández, 35, was shot while riding a motorcycle near the soccer field of Javier Rojo Gómez municipality. This marked the beginning of a series of violent events that spread to other communities.

– In the early hours of March 1, five bodies were discovered at the Sacxán bus stop, Ribera del Río Hondo. The victims showed signs of torture and gunshot wounds to the head.

– Confirming that Campeche is no longer a safe state, three people were killed, and several others injured in a shooting on Friday night in Melchor Ocampo, which belongs to the Municipal Council of Alfredo V. Bonfil.

A Call for Action

This week of terror in Othón P. Blanco has exposed the fragility of security in the region. The inhabitants of the affected communities live in fear, while the authorities’ silence only increases distrust. The violence continues to escalate, leaving a tragic toll and a sense of impunity that urgently needs to be addressed.

The infiltration of cartels in governments poses a serious threat to democracy, the rule of law, and social well-being. It is imperative to heed the warnings of journalists and experts, and to address the unchecked advance of narco-politics in Mexico. The threat is real, and the consequences are dire.
