In a dramatic clash in the desert area of El Arenoso, Caborca, Sonora, three marines were injured, and an armored vehicle, known as a “Monster,” was seized. This confrontation also resulted in the confiscation of several cars and a cache of weapons.
The Secretariat of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) reported that the ambush occurred on Monday morning when a group of marines conducting a surveillance patrol was attacked from a densely vegetated area. Despite their resistance, the attackers managed to flee, abandoning a homemade armored vehicle and three stolen cars.
Among the seized items were a .50 caliber Barrett rifle, seven long weapons, various tactical and radio communication equipment, and cartridges of multiple calibers. Authorities are actively investigating to identify and capture those responsible for the attack.
The injured marines were airlifted from Caborca to receive medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition. The increased presence of patrols, including elements from Sedena, the National Guard, and the Mexican Navy, is now noted in the area.

At around 1:00 p.m. on Monday, the wounded marines arrived at Caborca hospitals and were later transported to Hermosillo for advanced medical care. Sachael Márquez Badillo, the coordinator of Civil Protection, confirmed that the marines’ condition is stable, with no fatalities reported among the officers involved in the incident.
The search for the aggressors continues with air support, as operations are ongoing in the area.
