A tragic incident of animal abuse occurred in the Álvaro Obregón neighborhood of Hunucmá, Yucatán, where a man allegedly ran over and killed a stray dog on March 4. The community is outraged by the event.
According to a social media user, the dog was sleeping near a sidewalk when a driver intentionally ran it over. The woman who reported the incident said she heard noises and came outside to find the probable perpetrator, who blamed the dog for being there.
The complainant noted that this was not the first time the individual had committed such acts, as he had allegedly killed two puppies in a similar manner in the past. Despite requests for intervention, Municipal Police officers claimed they could do nothing and left the scene.
This incident follows another recent case of animal abuse in Kanasín, where a disabled dog named Negrita was run over.
Grúas Manzano, the company where the man responsible for the incident worked, issued a statement expressing deep regret over the incident. The company emphasized that the man’s actions did not reflect their values, and they decided to terminate his employment. They also pledged full cooperation with authorities and affected parties to resolve the situation. Later, the company deleted its social media accounts.
The post on social media garnered various reactions from internet users and frequent customers of Coastal Café, who supported the business and condemned the tourists’ behavior. Many emphasized that such incidents negatively impact small businesses and stressed the importance of raising awareness to prevent them in the future.
