11

The Government of Nuevo Leon declared an environmental emergency due to extremely poor air quality in the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey, attributing the situation to strong winds and dust storms generated by cold front number 31.

Extreme pollution by PM10 particles

The state Environment Secretariat reported that the emergency was activated due to high concentrations of particles smaller than 10 micrometers (PM10), which represent a risk to health. These particles have been dragged from Texas and Coahuila by gusts of wind exceeding 60 km/h.

In addition, recommendations were issued to the population to limit outdoor activities and protect vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, and people with respiratory diseases.

This is the first environmental contingency declared in Nuevo León in 2025, reflecting the continued concern for air quality in the region. Authorities insisted that citizens follow official instructions to minimize health effects and reduce exposure to pollution.
