The fires in Nuevo Leon have triggered alerts in different areas of the state. A video circulating on social media even shows the moment when one of the incidents forces public transport passengers to get off the bus.
The users ran off the transport unit after the driver stopped near where there was a fire.
In the video, the vehicle is seen moving forward and the enormous flames can be seen through the window. The passengers shout at the vehicle to move forward after the truck stopped next to the fire.
It was at that moment that the users decided to get off and even the crying of children can be heard. “Get off, get off, get out of the way, sir,” shouts a woman who desperately gets off the bus.
When getting off, the camera shows the sky completely gray from the smoke, while the rest of the passengers ran to avoid being hit by the flames. So far, no injuries have been reported.
On the same social networks, residents shared photos of the smoke that fills the sky of the metropolitan area and other areas of Nuevo León, as well as complaints about the poor air quality in the face of the fires recorded in recent days.
What do we know about the fires in Nuevo León?
The effects of cold front 31 caused strong gusts of wind in Nuevo León that left different neighborhoods without electricity and also spread the fires.
One of the most serious fires was reported on the side of the road to García, in the municipality of Santa Catarina, on the border with García, Nuevo León.
The fire started in a vacant lot, and despite the prompt response of rescuers from both municipalities, strong winds of up to 70 kilometers per hour caused the flames to get out of control.
In response to the emergency, units from the Nuevo León Fire Department and the state Civil Protection arrived in support, as well as tankers from various companies and from Agua y Sedenaje.
At the moment, there is talk of damage to at least four companies as a result of the flames that entered the properties.
Civil Protection of Nuevo Leon reported that 80 employees were evacuated as a precaution; however, the number could be higher.
“The corralón, the ADS company, the patios of that company and a pallet truck here next to the Viñedos neighborhood are on fire,” he added.
Despite the proximity of the fires to several subdivisions such as Hacienda El Palmar and Viñedos, it was not necessary to evacuate neighbors, however, they were advised to keep their properties closed because the wind carried the column of smoke toward those sectors.
At the moment, the authorities have not reported any injured people; however, the strong fire adds to other incidents reported in other points of the metropolitan area that are worsening the air quality, for which an environmental contingency was activated since Tuesday.
The road to García remains closed from the Monterrey Saltillo freeway to the Libramiento and Luis Donaldo Colosio area.
