Businessman Horacio de Freitas has filed a complaint with the Attorney General of the State of Yucatán (FGEY) against Rafael Echazarreta Torres, the president of the PRI in Mérida, accusing him of fraud amounting to over 12 million pesos. The alleged fraud stems from an investment in a joint business venture that never materialized.
De Freitas reported that Echazarreta Torres, leveraging his political image, initially requested smaller sums to gain his trust. In return, he promised De Freitas a 40% stake in the company Exportaciones Integrales Mexicanas. However, De Freitas soon realized that the profits never materialized, and the supposed company had been seized as part of an international litigation.
Despite having signed documents supporting the commitment, Echazarreta Torres failed to return the money. De Freitas initially attempted to recover his investment peacefully, but after receiving no response, he decided to take legal action on December 30, 2024.
Legal Proceedings
De Freitas is determined to pursue the legal process until he obtains justice. He demands the return of his money and calls for the law to be applied against Echazarreta Torres to prevent other Yucatecan businessmen from falling victim to similar deceptions. The case is registered under investigation file Norte-57-24-2024 and is still under investigation.
