San Miguel de Allende will be the permanent venue for the Mexican edition of ‘La Classicissima’

For the second consecutive year, San Miguel de Allende will host “La Classicissima”, Mexico edition, one of the most emblematic competitions of international cycling, organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce that will take place on Saturday, March 8 with the participation of more than 1,000 cyclists from around the world.

“Last year was the first time it was held outside of Italy, several cities fought for it, including Mexico, Cancun, Guadalajara and Monterrey, but in the end they opted for San Miguel de Allende and they liked the way they were supported and so here is the race again, for the second consecutive year,” shared José Cruz González, director of the Municipal Sports Commission.

The head of the Comude also announced that in this edition the organizers have made the decision to establish San Miguel de Allende as the permanent venue for the event, so “La Classicissima” will continue to be held in the municipality every year.

“With this, sports tourism is promoted and that is what we want to continue generating,” he said.

Competitors will be able to choose between three routes, designed for different levels of endurance and ability, which include tours through three municipalities of the state, San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo and Guanajuato capital.

Starting point of the ‘Classicissima’ race
The starting point will be the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel at 6:30 in the morning, so that the cyclists can begin their route that will culminate with a meeting at Viñedo San Lucas.

During the event, there will also be the “Italia es Bici” exhibition, where more than 20 brands will exhibit the best of Italian cycling in Mexico.

Routes:

  • Gran Fondo: 250 km, +3000 m elevation (SMA – Dolores Hidalgo – Guanajuato)
  • Medio Fondo: 148 km, +1600 m elevation (SMA – Dolores Hidalgo)
  • Ruta Corta: 76 km, +900 m elevation (SMA and surroundings)
