The head of the Government Secretariat (Sego), Jesús Romero López, reported that there is a person detained for the disappearance and murder in Oaxaca of at least seven young people from Tlaxcala who were vacationing in the tourist destination of Santa María Huatulco.
In a press conference, he announced that this person has already been presented before a Control Judge in the city of Oaxaca, and assured that the detainee revealed the origin and motive of this multiple murder.
At least seven young people from Tlaxcala were kidnapped on February 28, 2025 in Zipolite, a beach destination on the Oaxaca Coast; they were murdered and their bodies transported in a vehicle, to finally abandon them in the state of Puebla, on the side of the Oaxaca-Cuacnopalan highway.
Romero López announced that in the next few hours the State Attorney General’s Office will release the entire chronology of the crime.
Regarding the publications in international media that compare this multiple homicide that occurred in the state of Oaxaca with the disappearance of the 43 normalista students from Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, the official said that this crime is not comparable because the victims were not involved in any social or educational struggle.
“Today some international media claim that this situation is comparable to the disappearance of the 43 normalista students from Ayotzinapa, and it is not at all. They did affect young people, they did affect the integrity of life, but it does not occur in a context of social, teaching struggle, of defending young people in educational matters. It has another nature, it is another, there would be no point of comparison, as has been tried to say in the international arena and saying that Huatulco is unsafe.”
Romero López insisted that the tourist destination of Huatulco is safe, and that there are guarantees for local, national and foreign tourists.
